Yoga, also, is a medium for us to remember our own culture and values. It has positive impacts on both our mind and body. For these reasons, I chose yoga as one of my CAS experiences.

L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I got to know about my strengths and weaknesses while performing these tough yoga asanas. I found that my body was not as flexible as it should be. During the initial stages of learning, I was not able to do these asanas, particularly pranayam. I knew that I had to make my body more flexible. So to do so, I started doing little warm-ups to reduce the stiffness. This helped me and I learned pranayam with padmasana.

L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills

Tough challenges were taken especially when I decided to do shirshasana. Sirsasana is one of the toughest poses. It is more commonly known as headstand. I started practicing the pose with the wall. As I got some control over my body, I started to increase the time of my stand. However, when i thought that i was ready to do it without any support, i was wrong. I could not maintain my balance. The trick to maintaining balance is concentrating at one point and remaining calm. As soon as I used the trick, I was able to accomplish my goal of doing shirshasana.

L4-commitment to and perseverance

To learn these positions, I used to wake up early in the morning. My father used to guide me in this. I also learned Bakasana, or the crow pose. It strengthens your abdomen and arms and stretches your back. It also helps in improving your balance and blood circulation in those areas.

I used a timer so that I could hold my position for at least 30 seconds for each asana.

L7-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Choosing this experience made me reflective of myself. It made me curious about the functions of the body and how doing yoga affects them. I started to think more about our culture and values that we inherit but are lost somewhere in this modernisation. I have decided to do yoga and improve my skills whenever i get time.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1x2kLbnxOkNM4Oko3yjhKLuHsYmVMgMxX7G6G5m3mS4A/edit

LEARNING YOGA ASANAS I ACTIVITY LO’s: develop own strengths and areas of growth, skills, commitment and perseverance, challenges undertaken.
