I assembled a group of friends and we went to a dirty road and cleaned it. It felt really good to give back to society, because we, humans are the ones that polluted it, not realizing that it is a part of the planet and every living thing has an equal right to it.

Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

To clean the Road during the COVID-19 era required a lot of planning. We had to take

permission from the SMC because we had to clean the road on weekends and usually SMC workers do that at night. We had cleaned

beaches previously, courtesy to the school, so we knew how to go about it and how to clean the road and what materials we required.

Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working

collaboratively

I went with a group of friends. Had I gone alone, it would have taken me hours to clean the Road that we 4 achieved together in about 45 minutes. This means that if we all work

together, we can reduce the amount of work we do, while still doing our part for society.

Learning Outcome 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land.

Due to pollution on the road, the animals eat the garbage and much of it is not digestible,

hence they die or are in immense pain. When we cleaned the road we made sure to

do our best to clean the area, so that none of the animals eats it.

Learning Outcome 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

In some way or the other, it was us who polluted the road because we also use plastic and

create garbage, so we did our part and cleaned the road. Also, because I understood the

effect it has on the environment and animals, I have started using paper straw and drinking

from glass bottles in order to decrease the amount of waste I produce as an individual.

To conclude, it was a really enlightening experience and I understood the impact of my actions

and I will definitely try to reduce garbage on my part.

Road Cleaning Reflection The experience was to clean a road in order to give back to society.
