Donating Clothes with Rotary Club (Surat West) (Service)

We are privileged enough to satisfy humans’ needs. On behalf of the Rotary Club, we collected clothes from our neighborhood and then donated the clothes to those in need of basic human necessities. The goal was to gather clothes from our locality during weekdays and distribute them during the weekend to satisfy the needs of underprivileged people.

LO 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

As such, there were no problems in organizing myself according to the process, except during the planning and initiation part. We were facing issues on how to move forward with this movement and how to communicate and spread the word to gather an enormous amount of clothes to distribute to those in need. We divided ourselves. Some of us went door-to-door to spread the word while also sending messages through the use of social media. Communication skills developed during the process.

LO 4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

We were committed to the process. We spared our time gathering clothes from our locality. Committing to this experience was needed as if you don’t put in the effort, you are distributing only a small number of clothes, which does not aim to the goal of this process. Knowing we were committed, people were willing to donate made me feel happy as I know that the time I spent was for someone in need of necessities.

LO 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

During the process, we had to work together. Yes, it was easier for me to work with him as we know each other well. There were no issues faced during the span of the experience with my associate. It was easy for us to communicate. Collaborating well helped us make the process effortless and smooth.

LO 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

The issue of global significance demonstrated in the process is Poverty. The people who are underprivileged, financially unstable to cover the basic needs in life are the ones who lie under poverty. Knowing that we helped those in need of basic necessities makes me feel happy and proud of myself that I was able to spread awareness to our locality, spread kindness, and distribute basic necessities to those in need.

LO 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

The ethical issue involved in this experience is inequality. Knowing that we live in a world where people can and are willing to spend millions and millions of dollars on their wants, some people can’t even afford the basic necessities of life. This shows the inequality in today’s world, and it affected me indirectly. While the distribution of clothes was going on, I realized how privileged we are to get the facilities we are getting, the need for education, food, clothes, and shelter.

I believe that after this process, I developed my communication skills and caring skills. On behalf of the Rotary Club, we think that this experience has been a success. It gave us exposure to the profound view of reality. The importance of basic necessities. Importance of Education. Knowing we helped the underprivileged people in some way or the other makes me feel proud of myself.
