A club is an environment where students can share their knowledge and share their opinions, resulting in the development of understanding and knowledge of the particular subject. The Business Management club was a club created by our peers wherein they invited experienced individuals to conduct sessions and illuminate us with the subject knowledge. The business club basically provides a platform for us to extend our knowledge about the corporate world. I had an great experience and the discussion and online sessions have helped me develop my skills and gain knowledge on business concepts and how to imply them in real life.
LO 1- Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth:
Opting for business management as an IBDP subject helped me realized my keen interest in business. This club has given me the opportunity to extend my knowledge on business management and know it’s implications. During the discussions, I was able to see myself with various abilities and skills such as communication skills.
LO 2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process:
The problems faced were, first and foremost, that the meetings were held online (due to the pandemic), which meant that the sessions were tedious at times and the conversations went off track. Adding on, some unnecessary arguments during meetings wasted our time. Skills like Critical thinking, Communication and social skills have enhanced immensely after this. The open discussions, interacting with the guest speakers and asking them doubts and the overall interactions have opened my understanding on management and understand the concepts more thoroughly. Overcoming challenges and inheriting new skills has definitely pushed me to respect myself more, and I think is why clubs are a great opportunity for us and it is a part of our personal development.
LO 5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively:
I believe that it is important to work collaboratively because it encourages more opinions in the discussions and makes the sessions more productive. I’ve always been a good team player, which makes working and learning collaboratively easier for me. The members of the BM club were students who are interested in business so we understood each other through similar lenses. But sometimes, as mentioned above, sometimes the members asked unnecessary doubts which disrupted the flow of discussion. I personally handled this situation by approaching one of the project member. Other than that, the members had healthy disagreements in discussions such as ethics in the corporate world. I believe that it is important to work collaboratively because in scenarios like these, the productivity of sessions depend upon how much time we invest in useful discussions.
This CAS experience for me was really helpful and I am glad to be a part of it. Even though there were online session, it has increased my interest towards BM and the corporate world. The most interesting part of the club was the guest lectures we had on e-commerce and about the views on corporate world. These sessions really helped me know more about the corporate world and the implications and so I thought that these conversations should happen frequently so that we are enlightened with more knowledge. Only then we will be able to measure our passion and interest for the subject and choose whether we should go ahead in it or not.
