Regular blood donations by a sufficient number of healthy people are needed to ensure that safe blood will be available whenever and wherever it is needed. Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person Just 1 donation can save up to 3 lives. More than 1 million people every year are diagnosed with cancer for the first time. Many of them will need blood sometimes daily during chemotherapy, injuries from car crashes, or natural disasters. Individuals with an illness that causes anemia, such as leukemia or kidney disease. The applications of blood are truly vast in number.
I was shocked to hear that blood donations were nearing an all-time low due to the pandemic and the lack of blood drives and many people had to go to extreme lengths to find a blood donor to help these people. I and my friends decided to create a website that would make it possible for a blood donor and a blood recipient to connect with each other and make it easier for both the recipient and the donor to connect.
Did you identify your strength and weakness?
The strength that we had was our expertise in website building our weakness however was our lack of knowledge of blood transport and blood types. There are different blood types and in order to receive accurate blood donation, the donor’s and the recipient’s blood type need to match. Furthermore, we were not authorized nor did we have the resources to help extract blood or transport blood therefore we created a system in which people could connect by using phone numbers and emails.
The only challenge that we had to face was getting the research right and the second challenge we had to face was to make the website popular in the mainstream as a website with non users is not a very good website.
This was the first time we had developed a blood donation website.
It is important to face challenges as challenges help us evolve and become stronger, without attempting challenges we would not improve our skills at all and would be stuck at the same level for our lives.
There are enough healthy people to provide the donors with an endless supply of blood but the lack of knowledge of blood donation and transportation constraints are leading to delays in blood supply and eventually threatening their lives.
Summary: I believe this group activity is successful if I were to attempt this activity again I would advertise the website to a greater extent in order to find as many donors and recipients as possible.
