The vistosa festival was one of its kind, unique flea market for our city to celebrate small businesses. It not only focused on bringing people together, celebrating creative small business but also intended to give back to the community. All the profits were donated to disable welfare trust of India which was found by Kanubhai Tailor to support education for the deaf and dumb. The festival was hosted on 6th and 7th march 2021 with over 2000+ visitors and was a great success.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Planning an event on such a large scale seems daunting though our team made sure to take feedback and communicate effectively. Our greatest strength lies in how each student contributed and from their honest feedback. As for me, I believe my biggest strength and contribution was being a critical thinker and the task demanded that. For example when we were all in a dilemma whether the fee to the flea should be Rupees 50 or 100. Throughout the event it was important to understand the needs and wants of different people involved. As for my weakness, I am not creative. It is simply hard for me to create artistic pieces though I tried and they turned out pretty good.
LO2 and LO5
Our greatest challenge without a doubt was managing. Time management was really crucial for the event to run smoothly and we weren’t always on time that was allocated and there were some bumps along the way but we managed them as we continued to concur task by task. Along with this, another challenge was managing people who were entering the flea. COVD-19 is relatively new even though it seems to have been in our lives forever. It was our responsibility to keep everyone safe and even as we took precautions with 1000 people coming in and out, it was difficult for us to ensure everyone was wearing masks and that their temperature was being taken.Another challenge was definitely making sure everyone was on the same page. We all have different ideas and it was essential to make sure everyone was okay with the steps we were being taken while valuing their opinion. After all, it was everyone’s imaginationation coming to life. I honed many skills from time-management ,organization and communication skills. It made me more courageous to take risks and think out the box.
LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
The plan was already in action to some extent by the time I joined, though there was still a handful that was left to be done. Marketing was essential for the event to be a success. Each step was crucial from where to promote the event to finding the right influencers. It was important to keep the budget in mind while planning the event considering every aspect.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
The event obviously needed a lot of attention and we had to make sure to be there in every step of the way leading it. We started from coming up with a name for the event, deciding an aesthetic to finding the perfect event planners. Deciding and getting influencers to market the event to finding outlets to promote the event. It definitely needed patience and perseverance.
Lo6
Every once in a while, it is essential for us to reflect on the privileges that we are born with and to share it with others who do not have the same. Vistosa was a medium to give back . We decided to donate our profits to the Disable welfare trust of India founded by Kanubhai Tailor. They are people who can’t have the same education as we do and our systems aren’t well developed nor equipt to educate them and hence the smallest amount of donation can alter lives.
LO7
We are sure stuck in a global pandemic and we understand that with COVID-19, we were taking a risk hosting such a large event but we knew what needed to be done in order to make sure everyone was safe and sound from taking temperatures to closing entires every 30 minutes in order to only have certain amount of people have access at once. We made sure to announce and remind people to wear a mask while practicing social distancing if they could. We also tried to be cautious and sustainable.
