PARTICIPATING IN A CRICKET TOURNAMENT (a)

For this CAS experience, I, along with a group of my friends decided to participate in a cricket tournament that one of my classmates had organized. It was more like  a friendly match but we were all really excited since we had never played this sport before and as a result, it was a challenge that we had taken upon ourselves.

Learning outcomes achieved: LO1, LO2, LO4 and LO5

LO-1. Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth

Since this was a sport that I was playing for the very first time, I found myself absolutely clueless, about the game, the rules and the techniques. Our match was scheduled quite late, so we decided to observe and learn from those who were to play before us. We sat down and watched about five matches, and to my surprise, it was fun. We all felt a little less alien to the game.

LO-2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

Since everybody in the team was new to this, it was certainly a challenge to play this sport. In addition to this, we were playing against an all-boys team, who’d been playing this sport since they could remember. This fact was challenging and exciting at the same time. We all developed new skills in the process, whether it was throwing a ball with precision or hitting it hard or even catching it with a swift motion.

LO-4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

The scheduled matches were running late since all participants hadn’t arrived right on time. This postponed the start time of each match by at least an hour. It was a hot day and we all had to wait for Three hours before the match. Once it did start, we all tried to perform to the best of our abilities even though we’d never played the game before. This showed commitment and perseverance from all the members of the group.

LO-5. Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

Since this sport is a team game, it was pretty obvious that we worked together collaboratively. The game required every member of the team to play a certain role, from throwing a ball to hitting it or wicket keeping.  We had to recognise the skills of each member and use it to our advantage. Each participant played to use their strengths and coordinated with each other, which required teamwork. It taught me the importance of communication, and how we had to work as a team. It gave me insights about how every time I work with other people, it is important that we discuss our ideas  in order to work efficiently towards desired outcomes.

In conclusion, I had fun being a part of this tournament. It helped me explore a new sport while making me realise the importance of teamwork.
