CAS Reflection – The Corridors (School Newspaper Club)

I collaborated with the school newspaper club (The Corridors) to write a few articles every month on varied topics, such as global affairs, study tips, etcetera, since I am interested in writing on varied topics, and through this, I developed and worked on my writing skills.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. LO 1: Identify their own strengths and develop areas for personal growth. I achieved this LO by evaluating my articles and essays on different topics according to the comments given by the editorial board and the supervisors and identified my strengths and weaknesses. For example, I identified that I am able to write better when I am writing about something political that I personally feel invested in. This realisation helped me write more passionately and with much better quality.
  1. LO4: Show commitment and perseverance in their CAS experience. I showed commitment and perseverance throughout the experience by devoting time and effort on a monthly basis to write out good articles on varied topics and submitting them to the editorial board.
  2. LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. This experience involved some level of cooperation between me and the editorial board since I had to collaborate with them on reviewing, evaluating, fixing, and curating articles and topics. This helped me work better and write more insightful articles by incorporating different perspectives into my work.
  3. LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. In my articles, I often dealt with issues of global significance, such as universal basic income and wealth tax. Since these topics required extensive research beforehand, this made me more engaged with and connected to global issues.

I thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and I was able to develop my writing and thinking skills tremendously. If I were to do this experience again, I would choose to incorporate more topics from human sciences, psychology, pop culture, etcetera, so that I can gain a better understanding of such topics, and make my writing more varied. This activity benefitted others by providing them with information and arguments to make them aware of global issues and to convince them to look at topics from multiple angles.
