Helping children study basic math

The lockdown has without a doubt affected the education, even if the classes are now online they are not as fruitful as the offline classes, so I decided to help my younger sister and a worker’s son , X, study basic math’s. This CAS experience cater the service strand because I helped someone improve and in the long run they can contribute more towards the society/community.

LO 2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

It was challenging because I needed to have a lot of paitience to help them understand division and multiplication, they would costantly get confused and then I had to explain it to them again and again and this happend a lot of time, there was also bit of a language barrier which I overcame by taking help of my grandmother for translating. I did something similar before, it was when we had to go to government schools, and villages for services and helping the underprivilaged learn how to use technology etc.

LO 3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

I am usally not an organized person, so this time I organized myself by changing the environment I was at, instead of doing this at my homeI went to my Grandma’s place where I am more organized. Planning was easier than initiating, this is because I just had to call my sister and X, ask them what they needed help with, and then I helped them, but initiating, I needed a lot of paitience to let them understand and answer their questions again and again.

LO 4 : Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Commitment and perseverance were necessary in this experience because no matter how many times they asked I needed to make them undersatnd the topic, which later on made frustrated and angry. The commitment of entusiastically and paitiently teaching them maths. It is not easy for me to commit to things because I give up too easily or I have no inerest anymore, this has been one of the reasons I am unable to achieve higher feats.

LO 6 : Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

The global issue was quality education, this is not for my sister as she already recieves it but for a maid’s son, he does not have the same opportunities as my sister, I helped him the same way I helped my sister, helped him understand multiplication and division, but there was a bit of a language barrier, it is necessary for everyone to recieve quality education so that they have a more birght and wide future, and it is the current young generation who is going to live in the future, they are the future.

LO 7 : Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

It is in my own ethics that I don’t treat people differently and don’t discriminate, but the issue of cast system is still there, it does not affect me in any way but knowing that just because someone is in a different class changes the way people treat them is a really negative energy source, it is something that prevents people from achieving peace, we need to stop discriminating, it hinders the growth ad development of the society as a whole, and one major thing that we need to understand is that it is because of the people who do work like cleaning and are at a lower position than us, we are able to enjoy the life we are instead of doing these tasks.

Conclusion : During this experience I developed the open minded and communicator LPs, this made the conservation between me and others better which made it easier for us to understand each other. This CAS experience benefitted others by making them understand math’s better and this may help them improve academically, in the long term better it will also help the whole community, better education for everyone is really important because it may help them have a better and brighter future. If I were to do this experience again then I would teach them more so that it can be easier for them.
