Design Club (CAS project)

For the CAS project, me and 4 of my friends decided to conduct a design club for our junior students which included grades 8 9 10. Our goal was to teach these students basic concepts of design such as drawing skills, photoshop, modelling and much more. We did this by conducting online sessions.

L01 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Because of the world situation, all of the sessions were done virtually and this made it harder for us to teach these students, because of this we had to identify our strengths and weaknesses in order for us to improve. We identified that our strength was having individual interaction with students as there weren’t too many students and it was manageable. And our weakness was lack of participation by students, so we had to find creative methods to teach them and had fun activities.

L02 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

The biggest challenges we faced as a team was management and organizing all the session. All of us were in different classes and we all had different schedules so it was really hard for us to find time to work on this from the background and plan out sessions. But we managed to pull through by sharpening our time management skills.

L03 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

There was a lot of planning and discussion that happened before we made this club, we brainstormed a lot of ideas and plans and sessions that we could do beforehand and we also made a schedule of these sessions. We had to create goals and then manage and organize these sessions.

LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

This was a long term CAS project which lasted more than a year, due to this we had committed through all of the planned sessions which was really hard as all of this was done in our personal time. So inorder to be consistent we had to sacrifice our own free time and commit to this project.

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

I could have never achieved all of this alone, as I had a great group of friends and team our project was successful. With our combined knowledge and time we were able to conduct sessions of many varieties, and working as a team reduces the load on everyone. So for this project, we had to work collaboratively to be successful.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

The sustainable goal we were trying to tackle was quality education where we would contact charities and ask the kids there whether they were interested in developing these skills and we would teach them for free. As education is a luxury and we strongly believed that it should be something free of cost and a very common thing. But due to complications with time, we weren’t able to do this.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and action

During this project, I had to understand my responsibility as a student trying to share my knowledge with people who really wanted it like the charity kids and I understood how the choices I made created an impact on my community. This gave me motivation to work more for this project.
