Cooking is an art that indulges with techniques and ingredients all around the world containing different cultural traditions. I am sure we all grew up watching our parents and grandparents cooking for us. Few have different tastes, some have unique styles, and some aspire from ancient techniques and knowledge. Someday or the other, you require the basic skills and knowledge for cooking, which is why I looked forward to this experience.
LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Till now, all the cooking I have done was an outcome of boredom. I took it up as a challenge which in return will benefit me in the long run. As such, there were no strengths in cooking. It was a challenge that will help me learn everything cooking-related from the base. I would want to work upon cooking skills more as I enjoy cooking to overcome boredom.
LO 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The fear of getting yourself cut or burned was something I overcame during this experience. I went out rogue and tried creating dishes that I had not had in the past. It was challenging till the point I moved step by step. The whole experience has taught me new skills based on cooking. These skills can be applied in the future as they will help me during my university days when I will have to cook something or the other every day. Learning these skills made me feel happy as I got to know something new that’s helpful for me. Learning different new skills helps in getting exposure to skills that might or might not help at a point in your life.
LO 4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
The commitment was a big necessity in this experience, two weeks of full determination in committing 2 hours either in the morning, afternoon, or at night. It was a little easier for me to commit to this process as cooking is something I like to do, but it was hard as I had to be consistent for two weeks straight. The experience helped me divide my time sufficiently.
The main learner profile that I developed during this activity was Inquirer. This experience made me feel happy because I know I learned multiple new skills, but something that I will want to alter is that I would prefer to cook only occasionally or to overcome my boredom as it is something I would not enjoy doing every day.
