The study of Psychology and everything about the human mind is very fascinating to me, and learning and reading more about it only makes me more curious about it. So, by joining this club I will be able to express my views and ideas of Psychology and hear about others’ ideas as well. In addition to that, I volunteered for the service component of this club. We have an instagram handle where we post short content related to psychology and raise awareness about the importance of Mental Health. Also, for Mental Health Awareness day, I volunteered to be student-in charge for the session on depression being conducted and was able to spread some information about the topic.
LOs:
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
For the regular psychology club sessions, I researched as much as I could about the topic we were going to be discussing. While researching, I found so many new concepts that I had never heard of before and all the information was a little overwhelming at first since topics related to psychology can usually get very dark and heavy. However after reading up and familiarizing myself with the topics, I learnt many new concepts and ideas.
LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance.
As part of the club’s service component, I have to research and make posts for our social media regularly. Also, for the MHAD session, I had to start preparing all the materials in advance and make sure that whatever we were presenting was accurate.
LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
It’s always fun to hear the other club members’ takes and opinions. Not only does it help me see something from a different perspective, but also helps in my understanding of the topic. Besides that, working with fellow members and club leaders on social media posts makes it a lot more easier and enjoyable.
LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
Mental health is a globally significant topic. Through our instagram page, we are trying to raise as much awareness as possible to end the stigma around mental illnesses. Spreading awareness about the importance of mental health, we can reduce negative connotations that are associated with mental illnesses and disorders.
