Instagram Filters

Instagram filters always fascinated me and I always wondered how they were made. When a friend of mine introduced me to Spark AR Hub (software used to make Instagram filters), I thought it would be interesting to make some filters and have a little fun with them. To start out, I tried making some popular filters by looking at Youtube tutorials. When I felt like I had become familiar with the tools, I made 2 original filters one inspired by my favorite Youtuber and the other by my friend’s dog

Learning outcomes achieved: 1, 2, 3

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

In this experience, my strength was that I understood the software Spark AR hub very well in a short time period which is a very complicated software. As I am aware of my strength, it makes me proud of myself and makes me glad about what I was able to do. Knowing my strengths is important in order to understand myself and to know where I need to spend less time improving and on what I need to focus on more.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

The challenges that I faced were understanding and executing some tools and functions of the software, I understood the purpose of some tools and their basic use but sometimes I wasn’t getting my desired outcome. I have done coding in school, the usage of both software is very different but the outcome we want to achieve is similar, so during coding too, I had faced a similar challenge where I was not getting the desired outcome after writing the code. I overcame this challenge by thoroughly watching youtube tutorials and by seeking help from my sister, who had some knowledge of the software. After overcoming that challenge I felt the urge to learn more about the software and create my own filter with the knowledge of the software. The skills which I used during my experience were problem-solving and critical thinking skills. I had to use problem-solving skills in order to overcome my challenge and critical thinking skills to actually use the software tools and create the filter. These skills can help me in the future as they are quite handy in your day-to-day life.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

During this experience, I organized myself by deciding upon the hours I would work on this software daily for the two weeks while I was learning the software and created my filters. According to me, this experience was more difficult than planning it this is because sometimes it was difficult to work on the software when I had school work to do. So in the case of school work, I had to give some more time on learning the software on another day.

To conclude, I developed the learner profile attributes thinker and knowledgeable while coming up with the ideas for my final filters. I had to use the learner profile thinker and come up with innovative ideas. While creating the filters I had to use my knowledge of the software and its tools. The highlight of the experience for me was finally creating the filters and trying them out. This activity brought a sense of accomplishment to me as I was successful in creating the filters after working hard to learn the software. This was a fun and creative activity and if do this again in future then I will try to create even more complex filters.
