CAS PROJECT

CAS PROJECT : ORGANIZE A CRICKET TOURNAMENT

Cricket has always been one of my interests and hobbies. This is the reason why I wanted to do my CAS project in this area of interest. Secondly, I found that most of the people in my locality played the sport and liked to compete against each other, so we decided to organize a tournament from 17/12/2020 to 27/12/2020.

L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I always wanted to do something in managing and organizing. However, this also requires strengths. First of all, I found out that one of my strengths is to communicate with people well, and that has helped me in my project. For example, we (the planning committee) had to bring in sponsors for organizing, managing and purchasing cricket equipment and sanitizers and several other things such as food stalls, printing banners of the teams and the firms, making team jerseys etc.  I found out that I was able to convince people to help us by sponsoring.  We had different sponsors, such as title sponsors, bat and ball sponsors, team jersey sponsors, food stall sponsors, etc.

L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills

We faced many challenges in order to organize this tournament. One of the biggest challenges was to get the consent of the people who did not want to take part in this tournament. Organizing such tournaments means that many people gather around and there is a lot of noise, plus the speakers are loud and people who do not play are disturbed. Many people did not want us to organize it, but after a week, our committee was able to get their consent. Secondly, we were able to get over 150 names as we had distributed the forms for participation widely, but there was a high risk of covid-19, so another problem we faced was to constantly remind people to wear masks and sanitize hands so that we minimize the risk, and that is why we needed sponsors for sanitizer, so tt=hat they are available easily.

L3- initiate and plan a CAS experience

This required planning and execution, but it also required someone to come forward and put the idea in front of us. Me and My friend desperately wanted to organize this as we are highly interested in the sport. Not only us, most of the people in our society wanted to. So we made a planning committee, decided on the rules and regulations and asked for the permissions (I was the youngest one in the committee!) We also had to plan an auction for the teams on 5 december, it took over 3 hours!

L4-commitment to and perseverance

I had to put in my time for this, and for almost 3 weeks, we had to do meetings (9 30 – 11 ) at night.  Now this requires us to stick to it and also we had to actively participate in the meetings. It was not hard enough for me, as it was something I enjoyed.

L5-. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

This was something that I could not have done without the help of others. We had meetings at night. Some of the things we discussed were the rules of the game, how many overs, how many people per team. We had to make a form for participation and distribute it. However, it is not possible to distribute it all by ourselves in all the 10 wings. So we decided to give it to the guards of all the wings and they gave it in all the flats. In some matches, there were conflicts between the players, and we resolved it by working together. All of this was only possible because we cooperated.

At the end it was a successful event. I also participated and gave a good performance. We bought several trophies including the winner, runner ups, best batsmen, best bowler, man of the series, and man of the match for all the 27 matches. We used digital scoring through the app cricheroes and also used papers for scoring to double-check. I hope to organize more events in the future.
