I have not always been a sporty person, however, in the period of lockdown due to Covid-19, I felt the urge to stay fit and safe in whatever ways possible. Hence, I thought of working out at home in order to stay fit and healthy. Being a non-athletic person this activity will really encourage me to push my boundaries and explore something new. Although being a beginner it was very challenging for me to workout at home without any guidance and hence I got in touch with a personal trainer and decided to stay fit.
- LO 1: Identify their own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
As I mentioned, I had never properly worked out before, let alone exercised and so for me each day and every exercise felt like a challenge at first. At the earliest I found it extremely challenging to get my form right and I learnt it the hard way that stretching before and after the workout was very essential. In order to get my positioning right I decided to consult a professional in order to avoid any injuries. As for my skills I knew I had a great deal of tolerance and so I decided to eat healthy and work out as that is often known as the perfect combination for being healthy and fit. As for my weaknesses I realised I had a very weak core and almost zero strength and stamina and so with persistent practice and several core workouts I tried to push myself further and gain better results.
- LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
As mentioned above, I am not a very sporty person and so every workout routine was challenging for me at the start of the process. In addition to this waking up early in the morning to exercise each day was also a hurdle I needed to overcome and so I decided to sleep in early and make the most of my mornings and be much more productive. The results of this little change reaped benefits immediately as I was energetic throughout the day and much more efficient. When I began working out one of the challenges was I felt really tired after it, since it was a sudden exertion on my body, however, as the days passed my body became more flexible and I myself started feeling very positive and good. I am proud to say that slowly and gradually I have gained a little stamina and strength and continuing working out will help in the long run.
- LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
When I took this challenge upon myself I had little to no faith in myself if I could stick to it till the end. But after working out regularly for months I find myself extremely surprised today since i’ve stuck to it till the end. Yet from the start till the end I have shown persistence and commitment to push my boundaries. Initially I was unable to do more than half of the exercises like plank holds, burpees, squats, inch worm, knee-push ups and many more, and this demotivated my and I felt like quitting but my trainer had faith in me and she motivated me to keep working out in order to stay fit in such harsh times. Everyday I worked out 1 hour a day and pushed my boundaries and now after 3 months I have immensely improved and I am very proud of myself.
- LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
During these tiring times of the global pandemic a lot has happened and in order to stay fit and fight from the battle of COVID-19 the doctors and professionals suggested we have a strong Immune system as it ultimately leads to fewer chances of having the virus and a great defence from the virus. So having to exercise everyday allowed my body to stay fit and have a stronger immune system which may assist me fight the virus.
All in all I am glad that I took this challenge upon myself and completed this challenge. It assisted me not only to come out fitter and healthier but with a great deal of strength and a boost of stamina. Throughout this experience I portrayed several learner profiles including risk taker and balanced. I was courageous when I took this challenge and persistent while working towards completing it. As for being balanced, having good whole foods and working out every day of the week allowed me to stay mentally, and physically fit and balanced through this global pandemic period. I also showcased the SDG – Good Health and Well Being.
