LO-1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
As a part of the newspaper club, I realised I am not that good with articulation for writing informational or opinionated. I have my thoughts organised however I have issues putting them down using the correct set of words. On the other hand, I got to know that I am good at penning down raw feelings and capturing them. As I was one of the photographers and all of my written pieces were under the art and poetry section.
LO-2-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
I pushed myself to write new content, and click meaningful content. I had clicked self portraits on some very important issues and next I had to write a poetry or caption for them. I knew that I am not that good at articulation and hence it was quite time consuming for me to pen down my words and feelings. I also tried to think of ways of incorporating important issues like conservation, saving the planet in my photography.
LO-4-Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
IB curriculum has many submissions to be done. With so many assignments it was difficult to give the time to writing original content. However I still put time into this and made sure that I did not compromise on other subjects.
Till date we have done 3 newspapers, I have been constantly giving ideas on how the newspaper could look more appealing, topics and important issues we should write about. While submitting my own work for checking, I had to refine my work multiple times according to the comments I reviewed before publishing the piece in the newspaper.
LO-5-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
As it’s a club all of us had to be open-minded all the time, accepting and respecting everyone’s ideas was something very important here. I made my valuable contribution to the team, as much as I could wherever possible. Working together was the key, from deciding on the topics to write about to publishing it we couldn’t have done it with collaboration.
LO-6-Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
I personally, wrote and clicked pictures on issues such as how fake social media is and about conservation, saving the planet and mental health.
These are topics that need to be talked about, how people compare their bodies to people on the internet, how we need to conserve our resources as there is no planet B and how talking about mental health should be normalised.
LO-7-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Ethics and honesty is really important while you write content, I made sure I do not copy anyone’s ideas and written content, I gave credits when I used any piece of information that I didn’t write.
