Cooking has multiple names culinary art, baking, preparing food and etc.. It is also an important sector of survival skills. Everyone needs to know cooking food it is very important part of survival and daily life. A hassle free solution to healthy life.

Benefits of cooking :

If you eat food ordered from outside daily or at restaurant or packed snacks you may not know what ingredients are used and it can deeply affect your health. But cooking own food has a track of safe and healthy ingredients going in your body. No extra food be ordered and a balanced control of eating proportion. Eating at home often comes with less distractions from the surroundings and with a greater ability to turn inward to check with your sitting posture and with a satisfaction to know when to stop eating. Even if you are alone at home or in college quarter you don’t need to hesitate for food issue and can make your own food easily.

The Journey Begins From :

My journey all set to begin from when I decided to go out of city for studies and watching my mom everyday cooking new and delicious recipes single handedly for the whole family. Seeing these issues I also decided to learn cooking, achieve a new survival skill and took it as a part of CAS experience, so that I be committed and give full participation in it. I have learned basic cooking like chopping up vegetables, making coffee, dal, rice, roti, sabji, paneer from cow milk and more things like that. I have also learned different types of international, dessert and indian recipes like, Pav Bhaji, Idli, Dhose, Pasta, Falafel, Quesadillas, Enchiladas and many more things like that and then invent my own signature recipe that would be best of all.

Sharing the food and equity is a important moral of life. I always see some low earning families asking for food nearby restaurants or foods vans and fell regretted for them. Taking a small step to decrease inequality I will also create batches of one of the signature recipes and share with these families wishing for their wellness.

Learning Objectives Achieved Till Now :

LO 1 : Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth.

I am honestly also a big foodie. However seeing my mother cooking makes me feel it is a very big and difficult task. I was knowing how to cut vegetables prior to this experience but was lil unconfident and my hands used shiver a lot but practicing with mom I got confident about that. I also got to know that I had to increase my confidence and focus while cooking. I had to begin from total scratch to master in cooking. During lockdown, I also realised there were huge disastrous challenges faced by people who were alone and didn’t know cooking food. Realising that I also got the another purpose to learn cooking very with full loyalty and adherence to prepare for these kind of situations.

LO 2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

There were many challenges during these experience till now and will be there. Making a perfect circle shaped chapati and properly fry rotis on griddle in ghee. Cutting up vegetables with safety and precautions was little tough as I had cut in my finger two times due to overcutting of vegetables. Properly churn coffee, sugar and water to prepare perfect essence and add the hot milk with full of steam. Handling hot vessels. I was also little unconfident and scared while working with gas inductions. Fear of burning of hands. Working as per proper instructions and be safe from any incidents. Adding exact amount of ingredients and developing perfect taste. There are now more dangerous challenges I have to face of later and achieve my target of this experience.

LO 3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

In cooking there’s continually a method and steps which require to be followed. Before creating the dishes, I had to be positive and prepared that I had all the ingredients with perfect quantity or amount and follow the direction by order to order from mother. I also had to do prior preparation of some mixed ingredients that had to be added. Like adding a mixed paste of ginger, onion, garlic and chilly in the dal while cooking. I had also to manage the time for it and plan the everyday or every session task to get the best response from time taken for the experience.

LO 4 : Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences.

I often got distracted from this experience and was feeling that lets do different activity but then in my mind came the issues people facing during lockdown and thought of the future situation that I am alone at college quarter feeling hungry and helpless. What will I do in that situation and motivate myself to spent some good enough of time for it. Till now have spend 25 hours that involved learning basic things. Getting negative comments from my mother and seeing the issues while cooking I sometimes also thought to quit this but then my mother motivated me and said that is a important lesson for the future. I also was little less committed due to mismanagement of time and could not give preserved time to it and because of that I completed basic training late but then was very committed to international and complex cooking recipes and did it before time.

LO 6 : Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance & Recognize.

Poverty is a major issue in India. People often think of reducing poverty but their small actions doesnt impact the society. There have been many campaigns to stop this issue but somewhere they have failed to reduce this index due to less participation of our so helpful and united Indian citizens. Just think of these people in hunger strike for endless days. I know that we have taken many steps, although we have being many times making sure that we do not waste any time meal. But, many do not even have the privilege to eat everyday and this issue cannot be resolved this way. We need to become one society and lead to a bigger step. So I created batches of one of my signature recipe and shared with them.

Sharing my recipes to low earning families also helped me to achieve two Sustainable development goals at smaller level ‘ Zero Hunger ‘ and ‘ Reducing Inequalities ‘. Zero hunger because giving these well wishing families one time meal will reduce their one time hunger strike. Reducing inequalities because a small step to promote that all are equal and important part of humanity by sharing our one time meal with them.

LO 7 : Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

Ethics are very much significant while cooking. You need to follow all the rules of cooking and ensure all the safety protocols so that you don’t get through and dangerous accident. You also need to make sure that you don’t disobey and orders from your supervisor or you can deeply get affected by it. Safety protocols like handling hot vessels with care, proper chopping of vegetable no over cutting, having full focus on it while cooking, wearing gloves while baking, handling glass vessels carefully, handling electricals properly or maintaining some distance while deep frying something so that oil doesnt spill on your hand.
