Experience 6-Learning badminton

While working on this experience I worked on LO1, LO2, LO4, LO7

For this CAS experience I learned how to play badminton, I practiced this activity for a month while learning the basics of it like service(for this the player needs to pass the shuttle to the opponent’s court by hitting it with the racket), frontcourt( this is when you have to lift the shuttle, take the net shots ), the midcourt(playing the normal badminton game) and smash(when you use a lot of power while hitting the shuttle)

L1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

While working on this CAS experience I identified my strengths and weaknesses. I learned the game at a decent speed and practiced it for 1-2 hours every day. Learning the service and mid-court wasn’t that challenging for me after some time but keeping the body active enough to carry the shuttle throughout the court was difficult. The shuttle used to land on any area of the court and to cover it all at once was a little difficult for me but gradually I got used to it.

L2-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

While learning this sport I learned 4 skills as mentioned(service, frontcourt, midcourt, and smash). These are the basics I covered in the 1-month duration, it was challenging to run all around the court making sure that I didn’t miss the shuttle.

L4-Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Since I learned this sport during vacations it wasn’t a problem to spend 2 hours on this. Since I was learning a new sport at the start it worked as I planned but after some days when I was asked to practice the same skill again and again it started getting pretty boring, there were moments where I felt like skipping training for a couple of days and I did skip a day or 2 for the same reason but after missing on it I realized that I wasn’t able to get that grip as fast as I was able to while training on a regular base. After this, I practiced every day to get to that state where I could play this sport in a much better way than I used to.

L7-Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Picking this exercise made me identify a few factors that could help me stay more healthy physically. Playing badminton requires a lot of stamina and flexibility which were my weak factors. To increase my stamina I practiced very hard and did exercises that could help me increase my stamina. Exercises like running, skipping, burpees helped a lot increasing both the factors simultaneously. I am not on a great level but I have improved a lot through these activities.

Overall this experience was very engaging and helpful for me to build my physical strength.

I came across lP’s:

balance: where I gave importance to my physical health in correlation with other factors.
