I started gyming 3 months ago and it is a continuous process with the purpose of getting into shape and because I want to play tennis professionally, I have to build strength and stamina which gym will help me do so. I go to the gym 4 days a week, for 1 hour. The intensity is increasing as the goal is to improve my strength which will enhance my overall performance in tennis. Apart from this, I think that physical fitness is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. Gym helps us to gain many health benefits, it increases our energy levels, feel motivated and gives us the opportunity to face challenges.
LO 1- Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth:
The capability of my body to perform some activities determined my fitness. During the gym sessions, I became aware of my strengths and weaknesses such as legs were one of my strengths. I was good at powerlifting but when it comes to core and cardio, the sessions were challenging and exhausting too. It is important for me to be aware of the strengths and weaknesses I cater to as it will help me in knowing the situations where I have the upper hand or things I can use to my advantage. The weaknesses help me in knowing the areas I need to improve in and slowly progress towards. It was important for me to work upon my weaknesses as they were important components I need for tennis, so I worked accordingly.
LO 2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process:
There were various challenges faced during the process of gyming. Firstly, my schedule became lethargic, I had tennis practice and then gym too. Plus the school work and assignments, so I had a very tiring schedule. But I actually managed to do so and I also enjoyed the gym sessions, they were challenging. I developed time management skills during the process and also enhanced my sports related skills.
LO 3- Initiate and plan a CAS experience:
I made a gym schedule for myself to organize my daily schedule. So that I do not clash with my other activities. I planned my gym schedule based on my tennis training sessions, so I planned a balanced workout which helped me give my best in every session. So one day I had a leg workout in the gym so I used to keep my tennis sessions a bit light.
LO 6- Engagement with issues of global significance:
The global issue on which I showed engagement was “health” and I focused on one of the sustainable development goals by the UN which was “Good health and well being”. It is important for every individual to have good health, plus due to the pandemic, people’s mental and physical health have both been harmed to a greater extent. During this time, it was important for me to focus more on my health and a healthy lifestyle.
LO 7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions:
In the gym, it is important to be ethical towards my work. As in the gym, we share the equipment with others. I believe that it is important to follow the rules and ethics all the time. For example, after using the dumbbells, I kept them back in place and also sometimes reminded others to do so. One of the ethics is also that we do the exercise with proper techniques and if we don’t know them, contacting a professional trainer is the right way. So I always had a personal trainer with me while I did the workout.
I developed the learner profile, Balanced, because I planned my daily tasks in such a way that I didn’t have to compromise on any of them. To summarise, going to the gym has helped me improve my overall fitness while also allowing me to focus on commitment and hard work. Risk taker, principled, and reflective are just a few of the learner characteristics I’ve used in the gym. By pushing myself above my capabilities, I was taking a chance on achieving positive results.
