This experience caters to the activity strand of CAS as it contributes towards me having a healthy lifestyle. I have started doing cyclin on a daily bases but I do that only in my society which is around 300m in one round, so I decided to go from my home to Pal RTO which is around 3-4 km away from my home with my friends.
LO 1 : Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I identified that cycling long distances was a weakness of mine and it was a new challenge and something I had to overcome. Recognizing your own strength and weaknesses is important because it helps you know more about yourself, gives you new tasks and goals to achieve, and improve overall. I worked upon this weakness of mine increasing the time and distance I cycle in total.
LO 2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The challenging part about this activity was that I was unable to cycle long distances and going uphill (bridges) was also challenging, the reason for this was that I only used to cycle in my society area and for short time, going to RTO and on bridges/flyover was something I was not used to, it was like on whole new/different level for me. I overcame this challenge by doing this as a long term activity and going to RTO at least 3 times a week, this slowly developed my cardio to the level at which I am easily able to go there through the flyover. By undertaking this challenge I feel like I am one step closer to a healthy lifestyle, it is important to take on new challenges so that you can grow, if you don’t take new challenges then you will limit yourself.
LO 4 : Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Commitment and perseverance was required in this experience because I wanted to develop my cardio, and to develop something you cannot do it in just one day, it takes a lot of time and effort, I committed myself to whenever I decide to go out to cycle to Pal RTO then I don’t give up half way and actually complete it, and by showing perseverance I did it over and over again to improve myself (cardio), commitment and perseverance is something that is always required if you want to develop yourself.
LO 5 : Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Working with others on this experience was something I found easy because everyone was trying to convince each other to not give up halfway and reach the destination, otherwise normally I do find it difficult to work collaboratively since people have different ideas and they clash with each other. In my cycling group there was one person who was constantly complaining and wanted to give up half way and head back home, I started to get annoyed and wanted to argue but since majority of us wanted to got to Pal RTO he came with us as well, so I dealt with him by doing majority wins. It is important to work collaboratively with others because it can help you develop for future activities/work where you need to do group work, and in group others can help each other improve more.
Conclusion : This activity was challenging in the beginning but over time it became easier as I slowly adapted to the distance and the route. This also benefited the others in my group as it also improved their confidence in cycling to more distance and their cardio also improved. The highlight of this experience was the fun I was having while going downhill really fast riding a cycle on a bridge. I achieved success and it brought a sense of achievement because cycling a few km was quite challenging for me. If I were to do the same activity again then I would try to go further away and cycle more distances.
