CAS components : Activity And Service 

Verdant Gogreen is an initiative in which the organization provides volunteers with free samples of plants in order for them to grow. As my CAS experience I chose to Volunteer with Verdant Go green, in which I planted 10 samples in my own garden, and took care of it. I chose to do this in order to do something good for the environment and also to have some fun doing it. I thought of it as my responsibility of a caring citizen to do something beneficial for the environment. After planting the Samples I regularly took care of them and watered them.

Focused Learning outcomes:

LO 2: Demonstrate that they have undertaken challenges, developing new skills in the process. 

As I volunteered with Verdant, an initiative by my friend Saumya Shah, he lived very far away from me, but I had to collect the samples, for which I had to take a cab and travel 10 kms to reach his place and get the plants, and then return. Another thing is, I didn’t want to get myself dirty with mud as I was very afraid of it, but still, I did it in order to overcome my fear. Before the Experience, I had never done gardening before and it was very difficult for me to plant the sample as I had zero knowledge, how to do it? And etc. But with the supervision and instructions of my grandmother, I was able to conduct the task.

LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

So as mentioned earlier, I had to talk to my friend and tell him when I will be coming to get the samples as he had to be ready with them. So I had to plan everything. Planting is not an easy task to do, it requires utmost focus, and dedication. First you have to dig a hole, just the right size, not big or small, and then carefully put the sample in, then fill and provide it with water and sunlight. 

LO4 : Show Commitment and perseverance in their CAS Experience

Just planting the samples was not the task, I had to take care of them , so every alternate days I had go and water them so that they stay hydrated.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.

Global warming is one of the biggest issues of the 21st century. And one of the possible solutions to it is to plant trees, so that they can take in Carbon dioxide and give us oxygen. So by planting 10 samples, I have tried to contribute my part to the betterment of the society.
