(CAS)Creativity-
The learning outcomes I focused on were LO1, LO2, LO4, LO5, & LO7
Baking is my passion which I have been practicing for the past 3 years. I also pursue to study/work in the same field in the future. But due to the pandemic, I wasn’t able to practice the skills on the expected level. To maintain my basic skills I baked simple desserts weekly. Later, I wanted to share my knowledge on a larger scale, and to do that I started my youtube channel. My channel consists of some of my easiest baked dessert dishes which were convenient for me to make after the lockdown. This experience worked up for about 3 months where I posted videos weekly to demonstrate my skills.
L1-Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Through this experience, I got certain about my baking skill as all the dishes I recreated went well and I was clear that my basics are pretty strong that I could start my career from now. But while doing this experience I realized that my skills are restricted to a particular area. There was a lot more present than I wasn’t well versed with. In the pandemic, there were a lot of innovations in the culinary sector which I had to master. I want to work on those weaknesses and make them my strengths so that I have a wide range of options in the future while setting my career.
L2-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
There were challenges that I had been through while working on this project as the availability of materials. I had been using a variety of materials to make a particular dish but while working on this experience I created a lot of shooter recipes that gave the same result as my previous recipes. This limited the usage of resources and taught me to manage them in a better form. This skill will be helpful later as I would be able to manage my work more efficiently by reducing my labor working and costing while providing a good product.
L4-Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Cooking is not as easy as people think. While you create a baked dessert dish it takes a lot of patients and practice. There were moments where I wanted to skip the work but then my main aim behind this was to polish my skills and to do that I kept working on every small detail to get the product in the best possible conduction. I spent hours making every dish with patients and perfection. I stayed committed to my goal which is very important while working on anything.
While working on the YouTube channel I had to start working on my weaknesses, which I identified as a lack of exposure to various dishes. To work on my weakness I wrote my recipe book where I learned and recreated over 15 dessert recipes that I wanted to try from long ago. Learning those recipes wasn’t hard for me but most of them consisted of ingredients that I didn’t use(eggs). Being a vegetarian it was very hard for me to find recipes in eggless forms and even if it was available the outcome wasn’t as it should have been. After a few failure rounds, I started my changes in the recipe. I found alternatives for ingredients like eggs and practiced them until I got the expected outcome. Every recipe that I wrote was changed by me in some of the other forms to showcase my understanding of the same.
To conclude I learned new dishes while working on my pre-existing skill and presented both in the form of a book and YouTube videos. I was able to accomplish my aim and work on my weak point in a very productive way. The knowledge that I have gained through this experience will be very helpful to me as I was able to find new aspects and develop them. It will also help me while applying for further studies in the future.
