Volleyball

Things had shut down again during the second wave of Covid-19, and we were back in lockdown mode. It was an upsetting period when finally our school had started and every business was open with just masks and hand sanitizer as necessities. Unfortunately, India was hit by the second wave, which was more dangerous. We were dissatisfied at the moment and refused to return to our first lockdown hours (which was fun but we were now annoyed by covid). However, during a talk between my parents and their friends, one of their acquaintances remarked that during these times, the entire building community was playing volleyball at night from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. I’ve always loved sports and have competed at the state level in volleyball.Volleyball is a team sport in which a net separates two teams of six players. Under regulated regulations, each team aims to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court. However, the building game was a pleasant entertainment game in which we had a team of nine players and certain regulations were broken due to the fact that some of them were beginners.

Why did I chose Volleyball as my CAS activity (2 hours fitness): –
1. Volleyball can burn up to 585 calories in 45 minutes of play. It helps you get in shape.
2. Hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and balance are all improved.
3. Promotes teamwork and communication while also being a fun social activity.
4. Strengthens the muscles
5. To enhance my volleyball talents and be chosen for volleyball states.

The learning outcomes that I met were:

L1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
It took a long time for me to start playing volleyball. Volleyball was my physical sport for almost three years, but I later switched to frisbee, thus my practise was lost. I began watching volleyball games on the internet, and my performance was mediocre for the first 2-3 days, but when my hands became familiar with the ball, I felt more at ease.

L2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken developing new skills
It was tough initially to gain the trust of strangers because I only knew my parents’ friend and the other 20-25 players were completely unknown to me. My first impression was to exhibit my game in order to gain the squad’s trust and confidence in order to secure a decent position on the team.

L4 – Show commitment to and perseverance
The players, as well as myself, needed to be committed and determined. Because I was a regular player, I soon became a part of the building community. In teams, I was now nominated first. And, in the event that I was not present, I had been receiving calls on a regular basis.

L5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Working collaboratively mattered a lot, collaboration increases our group strength and also increases our defense. The 3 pass was highly recommended by our sir during the match which required a lot of coordination.

The Learner Profiles
Reflective:- I have to reflect on my weaknesses and turn them into strengths.
Communicate:- You have to communicate with other team members so that you can get to know the opponent’s weakness and then use it against them.
