CAS Experience- Coursera Course On Microeconomics

In light of the pandemic, we had online classes, which were not extremely productive and a great method to study which didn’t interest me. Henceforth I didn’t accomplish great grades in microeconomics and as Economics was an essential subject for my profession, I decided to do a course on Coursera that helped me in learning microeconomics in detail with real-life modules.

Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcome 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

All through the course, I identified my own strengths and weaknesses. Through the course, I realized which subtopics in microeconomics I was acceptable at like comparative Advantage, Trade, Demand, Supply, Market Equilibrium, and change in market equilibrium. Be that as it may, there were things that I was truly awful like government intervention, Elasticity, Price Interventions, taxes, and subsidies. To excel in topics that I was weak in  I used to watch them over and over. The Importance of knowing one’s strengths and weaknesses allows them to work upon them and don’t commit similar errors in exams.

Learning Outcome 2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

The Experience was a challenge for me itself, learning something new and above my pay grade was at times difficult and frustrating yet it was enjoyable to have a challenge on your hands. All through the course, there were numerous challenges that I faced as the course used a wide range of and hard wordings which were over my level. To overcome this I used to document every single one of them with their definition to recall it. The other difficulty that I confronted was, I couldn’t make out which thing was right, what I learned In school, or what I’m learning in the course. There were times when I used to get confused between them. To overcome this I used to clarify it with my economics teacher.

Learning Outcome 3-Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience and

Learning Outcome 4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

The course that I selected was 5weeks long, to effectively use my time such that I have time for other activities and subjects hence, I created deadlines. Given myself, a deadline also helped me to not procrastinate and get the job done on time. As stated above at times the course used to be frustrating and difficult, commitment and perseverance were important, and I am a person who can study for long hours and need change so I use to complete one topic at a time and in between do some other subjects. Showing Commitment allows the task to be completed by getting something out of it as well.

Learning Outcome 7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Between each video lesson, we were given a few questions to answer and at the end of each module we were given a quiz, the quiz results and responses show you that we are really paying attention and understanding the lesson. Then we would be entitled to the certificate. Ethics played a major role in answering these tests and questions, whether or not I answered the questions honestly. If I cheated, it would be of no benefit to me because it would still mean that I would do well in the exams and if my microeconomics is not clear, It would mean that I would not able to understand macroeconomics and international economics which are further part of my economics syllabus. This would also have an impact on my career choice.
